Insomnia

2:15 am ~ can't sleep.  I toss and turn.  My mind races.  Can't find
a comfy spot in my bed.

I try an eye mask, lavender sleep balm, relaxation programs on
my ipod.

I try pretending that I am on a cute little sail boat down in the
cabin all snug and comfy ~ gently rocking on the waves.
Some nights that lulls me to sleep.  Last night it did not.

I have to stop worrying about things I can't change.
I worry about the economy, the future of our country, etc.
I have to learn to let it go ~ at least before bedtime.

Sweet Bentley keeps me company on those nights I am up in
the wee hours.  What a darling little dog he is!

Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  1. Oh Susan, I definitely feel your pain! I suffer sometimes myself and just like you, over things I can't do anything about. Here's hoping for sweet dreams for you tonight.

  2. Hi Susan, I'm sorry you couldn't sleep last night; I was up with our old dog, not sure what was going on. I know that these tough economic times are weighing on everyone but you are right in that there is nothing we can do and stress only harms our bodies. It is tough though. Glad you have our sweet Bentley to be by your side.

  3. If I didn't take meds I don't know if I'd ever sleep. I remember terrible insomnia as a small child. Some people just fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

  9. Maybe you can borrow a sleep machine. It plays sounds like gentle waves or soft rain. Gentle sounds that lull you to sleep. Also try not to watch any news after six o'clock at night. I usually have no problem falling asleep, but I do sometimes wake up at 4:30 in the morning. Two and a half hours before I usually wake up. Then I toss and turn until it is time to get up. Sleep issues spoil your day that's for sure. Good luck tonite.

  10. I have a hard time falling asleep. Sometimes it take a couple of hours. I haven't seen the SleepyTime extra tea. May try it. Tylenol PM doesn't work either. I can be so tired and hit the pillow and wide awake. If you get any good advice please post it.

  11. Susan,
After working night shift for 29 years and sleeping most of the time at 2-3 hours intervals, I have a terrible time staying alseep. On my nights off, I have to take a Tylenol PM or a Flexeril ( muscle relaxant) for my back to help me stay asleep and if I am lucky, I get 5-6 hours of sleep.

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  12. Susan ~ I am so sorry that you suffer from insomnia. My hubby does too. He takes gravol (that is what is in over the counter sleep aids). It works for him ~ hopefully, you'll sleep better ;-)

  13. No wonder poor Bentley is wanting to nap lately! What a sweet, loyal little dude he is.

I am sorry about your insomnia. I feel your pain! But many of our fellow Americans wanted change, and boy! are they getting it. All we can do is keep praying for leadership....and divine intervention!

  14. Susan,
    those nights are so miserable.
Melatonin works for me and finally I can sleep all night. I also found having a small piece of hard cheese about an hour before bed has a nice drowsy effect. Only water after 6 pm at night too.
good luck and giving Bently a lil pat on the head for being such a sweet companion.

    sweet dreams~!

  15. Been there done that, too. I usually just get up after I have tossed and turned for awhile. I sit in the living room and read. Do not go on the computer. I don't drink coffee or tea after 12noon. I also try not to watch too much of the news - it's usually all negative anyway. I figure it's mostly out of my hands, so I just live the best life I can. Hope you find things that work for you.
